Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement after Senate Republicans voted against three gun safety amendments today in the wake of the San Bernardino, California mass shooting. Senate Republicans had three opportunities today to help stop the tragic and senseless gun deaths from mass shootings that have now happened 355 times this year so far, and each time they said no. It makes no sense to allow a gun in the hands of an individual we dont allow fly on a plane. And Senate Republicans voted to oppose the ninety percent of Americans who support background checks before someone can buy a gun. When given the choice between voting to invest in the solutions to this public health crisis or protecting the deadly status quo, Senate Republicans once again chose to aid and abet the gun lobby with inaction.
