"Buck" McKeon National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015 (NDAA), which includes a provision to reauthorize the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area for the next 15 years: “This measure is an important step forward in ensuring that Yuma Crossing remains one of Arizona’s great treasures and a major success story within the National Heritage Area (NHA) system. Since its first authorization in 2000 under legislation sponsored by former Senator Jon Kyl and me, Yuma Crossing NHA has played a unique role in preserving the historic Yuma Territorial Prison and supporting the Yuma East Wetlands restoration project. It has also served as a central component of the city of Yuma’s downtown redevelopment initiative, which involves a broad coalition of local businesses and relies on private investments rather than federal resources.
