It is also essential, in this time of constrained resources and increased scrutiny on spending, that the cost estimates for this realignment be responsible and strictly adhered to over the years ahead. I was pleased to continue working with my colleagues in the Congress this year to make additional progress toward these goals in the Fiscal Year 2014 National Defense Authorization Act. “The U.S.-Japan alliance is the foundation of the enduring U.S. commitment to the peace, prosperity, and freedom of the Asia-Pacific region.
