Roy Blunt, R-Mo., is returning to the Senate Intelligence Committee while Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., will be the top-ranking Democrat on the Aging Committee in the new Congress that convenes next year. Republicans announced their committee assignments today, Democrats did so last week. Here is a rundown: • Blunt. Besides the Intelligence Committee, Blunt will serve on the committees on Appropriations; Commerce, Science and Transportation; and Rules and Administration. Blunt previously was on Intelligence, and has been a critic of the committee Democrats' decision to release a report condemning the U.S. for using torture in the treatment of terrorism suspects in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. • McCaskill. On top of the Aging Committee, she will be on Armed Services; Commerce; and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. • Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill. will be on Appropriations; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; and Aging. •Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill. has drawn Appropriations; Judiciary; and Rules. Durbin and Blunt are also in their respective party's leadership. Durbin will be minority whip, the second-ranking position behind the Minority Leader Harry Reid in the 114th Congress. Blunt will remain the fifth-ranking Republican as vice chair of the Republican Conference, and his party will be in control of the Senate in 2015.
