I'm worried about Missouri's families and concerned that if we don't reverse course the negative effects on Missouri's economy could continue for years. McCaskill has been a strong advocate on behalf of Missouri businesses and workers, sending aletterlast week to the Secretary of Commerce to relay theconcernsof Missourian manufacturing and agricultural leaders raised during a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee roundtable chaired by the Senator. In June, McCaskilltoured Mid Continent Nail Corporation, the largest U.S. producer of steel nails, which was forced to reduce its workforce by more than 30percent and may be forced to close its Poplar Bluff operations while it waits for the Department of Commerce to decide on a tariff exclusion requestbecause ofsoaring costs and canceled sales resulting fromthe tariffs that the Administration placed on the wire that the company uses to produce nails. McCaskill hascalled on the Administrationto end the trade war, and is working across the aisle tobring greater Congressional oversightto tariff decisions. She has also conductedongoing,bipartisanoversightof the Administration's trade policies.
