After affected property owners filed millions of dollars in claims due to widespread sewer backups, the Sewer District requested resources from FEMA to reimburse residents for the damage. The Sewer Districts first appeal was rejected, and the Senators are contacting FEMA headquarters in conjunction with the Sewer Districts second appeal. The St. Louis Sewer District has made good faith efforts to respond to FEMA and help residents whose property was damaged as a result of flooding that occurred nearly two years ago, McCaskill said. I hope FEMA gives their appeal full consideration. Federal support is critical to ensuring the St. Louis area is able to fully recover from previous flooding, said Blunt. I urge FEMA to fully and carefully consider the St. Louis Sewer Districts appeal. The Senators have repeatedly worked together to advocate for Missouri resources. Last month they wrote a letter to FEMA in support of resources for Joplin as it continues to deal with the aftermath of the deadly tornado there in 2011. This month, they also requested full consideration of resources for Carter County Missouri after damage due to flooding earlier this month. the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District received more than $5 million in claims from affected property owners and has requested FEMA assistance for emergency protective measures, the Senators wrote to FEMA Assistant Administrator Alex Amparo. We understand the Sewer District has made good faith efforts to respond to all requests from FEMA for additional information and documentation, and we ask that you give the Districts appeal full and fair consideration.
