New mothers have their hands full as it is, and the last thing they should be worrying about is how and where to feed their newborn while traveling, McCaskill said. This commonsense plan will make these hectic and stressful travel experiences a little more convenient for moms on the move. McCaskill'sFriendly Airports for Mothers Actpassed both chambers of Congress this week as part of theFederal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act. McCaskillintroducedthe legislation, with Republican Senator Deb Fischer of Nebraska and Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, to ensure that within two years, all largeand mediumhub airports in the United States, including Kansas City International and St. Louis Lambert International airports, provide a private space that is accessible to persons with disabilities in each terminal for mothers to express breastmilk.According to a 2014 survey, only 8 of 100 airports in the U.S. offered suitablenursingaccommodations. McCaskill, a longtime advocate for mothers, recently backed abipartisan effortto improve data collection related to maternal health and mortality by authorizing grant funding promoting research and development on the issue. This spring, she also backed a bipartisanproposalthat would improve maternity care access in underserved communities throughout Missouri by identifying and encouraging maternal health professionals to practice in underserved areas.
