The Administration announced today it would extend the fix to this glitch. Earlier this year, following pressure from McCaskill, the Treasury Department announced they would temporarily allow the University of Missouri this extension. Last year, the University pledged to extend the subsidies for graduate students even without the federal government’s backing, which would have resulted in millions of dollars in penalties. The IRS guidance on the Affordable Care Act, which would have imposed millions of dollars in fines on the University for offering noncompliant subsidies to its graduate students, was issued in September 2013. However, the University only told the graduate students about its intention to end healthcare subsidies on Friday, August 14, 2015, two years after the IRS guidance was released.
