The City of St. Louis today received its Major Land Acquisition Waiver, which allows the city to issue bonds to purchase land for the new site. McCaskill, a longtime advocate for keeping the NGA in Missouri, and had met directly with the NGA Director to discuss the merits of keeping its operations in the St. Louis region. She personally urged President Obama, the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to recognize the North St. Louis site as the best place for NGA operations. McCaskill, along with Republican Senator Roy Blunt, recently penned an op-ed in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on the importance of the NGA to Missouri. Last year, the two wrote to the director of the NGA, urging the agency to keep its operations in Missouri as it evaluated sites for the relocation of its St. Louis-based operation.
