Our servicemembers and public servants often make the sacrifice of being stationed abroad to protect and defend our country, and ensuring their privacy is protected should be a top priority, said McCaskill, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. This commonsense solution is an important step toward securing the personal information of our troops and State Department personnelgiving them the peace of mind that they and their families' identities will be safe and secure as they answer the call to serve anywhere in the world. The McCaskill-backedMoving Americans Privacy Protection Actwill help protect the personally identifiable information of those who make international moves with their household goods by requiring U.S. Customs and Border Protection to take additional steps to secure individuals' personally identifiable information. Military servicemembers and foreign service officers are disproportionately at risk of having their information exposed given their rate of moving overseas. In recent years, the personal information of relocating individuals has been accidentally released, resulting in identity theft, credit card fraud, and unwanted solicitations. McCaskill, a strong advocate for military families, passedbipartisan legislationin the Senate to address lead poisonings and dangerous lead levels in housing on U.S. Army installations in the aftermath of a recentreportwhich highlighted the issue. Additionally, McCaskill recently joined with Senate colleagues and military and veteran service organizations calling on the Trump Administration toabandon a proposalthat would weaken oversight measures that help protect military servicemembers and their families from predatory lending practices.
