This federal funding is made possible through a Delta Regional Authority (DRA) assistance program, which is funded by annual appropriations and the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). Senator McConnell led the IIJA to Senate passage two years ago, and the President signed the bill into law. The IIJA will give Kentucky billions of federal dollars over five years to improve the Commonwealth’s roads, bridges, railroads, riverports, airports, broadband, and more. Senator McConnell, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, contacted the DRA in support of PMCRA’s competitive federal application and advocated for DRA funding in both the FY2023 federal government appropriations bill and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This federal funding will go toward restoring a major warehouse at the Riverport, increasing shipping volume on the marine highway system and enhancing the port’s ability to accommodate regional needs for manufacturers and agricultural producers. “Paducah has taken full advantage of its geography as the inland waterway capital of the country, and the Riverport is a prime example of this region’s impressive growth and potential.
