Today’s funding will help convert several important arteries in downtown Louisville from one-way to two-way streets, increasing access to businesses and residences along these corridors while making other improvements to reduce traffic conflicts and enhance safety. This federal funding is made possible through DOT’s Safe Streets and Roads Program, which was established in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). Senator McConnell led the IIJA to Senate passage two years ago, and the President signed the bill into law. The IIJA gives Kentucky billions of federal dollars over five years to improve the Commonwealth’s roads, bridges, railroads, riverports, airports, broadband, and more. Senator McConnell, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, contacted the Secretary of Transportation in support of Louisville Metro Government’s competitive federal application. “Like many growing American cities, Louisville is familiar with the cost that inefficient, backed-up roads can have on residents, commuters, families, and businesses alike. Unfortunately, busy roads can also lead to dangerous and sometimes deadly situations.
