'SUCCESS | McConnell Delivers Big Win With Tax Bill’ The Paducah Sun editorial congratulates Senator McConnell upon leading the Senate passage of historic tax reform bill Last week under U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's leadership, the Senate passed a critical tax reform bill that works to get the economy moving again to support Kentucky families, job growth, and small businesses. Senator McConnell said, "We seized the opportunity to spur economic growth, to help create jobs right here at home, and to take more money out of Washington’s pocket and put more money into the pockets of hardworking American families." The Paducah Sun editorial in McCracken County, Ky. highlighted the Senator's efforts on tax reform: Congratulations are in order for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. Early Saturday morning he delivered something even many Republicans said weeks earlier he could not -- 51 Senate votes in favor of comprehensive tax reform... It was a remarkable outcome, one that perhaps none other than McConnell could have engineered. McConnell has a history of this, for which he does not receive enough credit. There is still work to do. Differences in the House and Senate bills will have to be resolved in a conference committee. But in remarks to the Sun on Monday McConnell said final approval is likely. He says the two bills are "really very similar" in their most important provisions, notably lowering the corporate rate to 20 percent and reducing taxes for the middle class. Senator McConnell Joins Kentucky Small Business Advocates to Highlight Importance of Tax Reform Last week, Senator McConnell joined Republican Senators, U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Linda McMahon, and small business advocates from Kentucky and around the country for an event to talk about how tax reform will help American workers. Senator McConnell talks about the urgent need for tax reform During the event, Senator McConnell said, “We're on the cusp of a great victory for the country and particularly for small business. We are happy to have Linda McMahon here and I'm particularly pleased to have Alan Keck from Somerset, Kentucky, one of our great small business people.” Senator McConnell spoke about the Senate’s efforts to overhaul our complex tax code and shift our economy into high gear, saying, “What’s in this for the American people and for small businesses obviously is tax relief. An opportunity to hire more people, to build more in America, and to get the growth rate up.” Alan Keck, of Somerset, Kentucky, was one of the small business owners to speak at the event. He is the President of Somerset Recycling and the founder of Keck Sports Management, a professional baseball agency. But we spend billions of dollars…dealing with this compliance issue and its wasteful, it’s silly.” Senator McConnell welcomes Kentucky small business owners to his office in the U.S. Capitol 'Tax Reform: What’s in It for You' Senator McConnell pens column for The Wall Street Journal This week, Senator McConnell penned a column about how the Senate’s tax reform bill will help small businesses and families in America. It was published by The Wall Street Journal and newspapers across Kentucky. Senator McConnell wrote: Since Republicans in Congress began working on tax reform with the Trump administration, everyone has agreed that middle-class families must be at the heart of our plan. They will benefit from tax rates that are lower, simpler and fairer. Our bill doubles the child tax credit, preserves the adoption tax credit for families that open their homes to children in need, and roughly doubles the standard deduction. Under the plan we passed, a median-income family of four could see a tax cut of nearly $2,200—money it could use for anything from helping a child through college to saving for retirement. Our plan will also help small businesses grow. That’s why it has the support of prominent advocates including the National Federation of Independent Business. Lower taxes will help small businesses create jobs, invest more, and spur economic growth. Simplifying the tax code will reduce compliance costs and make it possible for job creators to reinvest more of their own money in their enterprises... Lowering taxes for families and small businesses is a central part of President Trump’s agenda, and we worked together toward this accomplishment for the American people...I am proud that the Senate rose to take advantage of this historic opportunity to give a break to middle-class families through tax reform.
