Robert Menendez of New Jersey, Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California and 216 other congressional members filed an amicus brief on Thursday in support of the Supreme Court granting review of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision in the case for immigration executive action. In the amicus, the officials stated that President Barack Obama's executive orders to protect up to 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation and expand the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program fully is compliant with immigration law and the U.S. Constitution. The move comes as the Obama administration continues to fight in a tense legal battle against a coalition of Republican governors who want to stop the orders from going into effect. If executed, the orders would shield millions of undocumented residents living in the shadows while protecting the parents of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents.
