Innovative projects and educational opportunities allow our state and countrys economies to thrive, said Sen. Menendez. Im always proud to announce funding for STEM projects that could lead to our next big invention or discovery. As we look to the future, we must continue to invest in students and teachers at impressive New Jersey institutions, like Rutgers-Newark, who will be innovators and leaders in the 21st century. This federal grant is not only an investment in New Jerseys future, but also in our nations ability to remain in the forefront of critical fields like STEM, said Sen. Booker. I applaud Rutgers-Newark for fostering our students ability to thrive in innovative STEM projects like this that create new educational opportunities while helping grow our economy. The Rutgers-Newark project titled Using Virtual Reality for the Dynamic, Real-Time Optimization of Human Visual Perception is funded through the NSFs Cyber-Human Systems program and will be led by Dr. Patrick Shafto, a math and computer science professor. Preliminary research suggests the combination of computer image filtering and virtual-reality hardware can be used to predict visual processing. The NSF supports research, innovation, and discovery that provides the our nation with the knowledge and cutting-edge technologies needed to address the challenges of the future. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
