Today, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee that sets national heath policy and an author of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), issued the following statement after a U.S District Court Judge ruled the Affordable Care Act (ACA) invalid due to the Republican tax bill zeroing out the penalty: This ruling is a disgrace for Americans of all walks of life, especially for the 32 million with pre-existing conditions. During this year, I had the opportunity to meet many of the 3.8 million New Jerseyans with pre-existing conditions, and the one thing they ask is to be able to access quality, health care regardless of their past medical history. This decision puts anyone of us with a childhood ailment, a serious disease, or high blood pressure at risk of being denied coverage or hitting lifetime or annual limits. The Trump Administration and Republicans' reckless abandonment of families with pre-existing conditions is shameful, and using the courts to repeal a law they could not repeal in Congress is beyond reproach. It is my hope that higher courts will correct this injustice. The American people have had enough.
