Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran on Wednesday stressed their support for Wichita lawyer John Broomes, who was nominated by President Donald Trump to become a federal district judge in Wichita. The Republican senators from Kansas introduced Broomes before his confirmation hearing in front of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. The committee and Senate have not yet voted on his nomination. Roberts said he could not think of anyone more qualified for the judgeship. “Mr. Chairman, Mr. Broomes has my strongest possible support,” Roberts said. “He has already pledged an oath to protect the Constitution as an officer in the U.S. Navy. I have no reservation that he will uphold our Constitution as the Founding Fathers envisioned it.” Moran also stressed his support. “John Broomes is a highly qualified, well-respected attorney with the mentality, the intellect and the legal mind that we should find for those that receive a lifetime appointment to the federal bench,” Moran said. Broomes, a Wichita native, holds degrees from the University of Texas and Washburn University School of Law. He currently works at Hinkle Law Firm, where he practices resources law.
