Moran Statement on the Passing of Olathe Mayor Michael Copeland 2020-08-20 2020 2020-08 Republican House KS Jerry Moran M000934 www.moran.senate.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today issued the following statement after the passing of Olathe Mayor Michael Copeland: Mike came to Kansas as a young man to play football at Mid America Nazarene University and fell in love with the Olathe community. As Mayor of Olathe for nearly two decades, his first concern was never for himself but always for his community how he could make Olathe a better place for every family living there and every individual passing through. I know I speak for many others when I say we came to appreciate, respect and love Mike for the helpful, supportive, and caring friend and leader that he was. He always put others first, and I benefited greatly from his friendship. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing, and Robba and I will be praying for Mike's wife Maria, their children and the entire Olathe community. # # # 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
