Scott Heimann, who was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call late Saturday night. Sgt. Heimann will be laid to rest in Hays on Friday. “The tragic loss of Sgt. Scott Heimann is deeply heartbreaking for the entire Hays community,” said Sen. Moran. “He embodied the very best of our small, tight-knit town, a place where people look out for their neighbors, care for those in need and protect the vulnerable. Sgt. Heimann died defending his community from harm. The men and women who serve in uniform risk their safety every day, putting their lives on the line to protect and serve both neighbors and strangers alike. Sgt. Heimann began his service with the Hays Police Department in 2016, and his watch ended far too soon. In Hays, we will remember his sacrifice, and we will honor the legacy he leaves.
