Mr. Johnson has been to Alaska and I look forward to inviting him back we have the nation's largest Coast Guard base in Kodiak and are proud of our close relationship with our 1500 active duty personnel statewide. The DHS Secretary also makes recommendations to the President about who should serve as the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard. Mr. Johnson made a commitment to continue the acquisition of National Security Cutters that will be able to provide a more robust presence in the Arctic as opportunities there emerge. When we discussed FEMA issues, he was also very receptive to my concerns that arose from the inadequate response to Galena after last spring's floods and seemed willing to seek improvements where they can be found. I look forward to working with Secretary Johnson in his new position, and to working with him to advance an Arctic maritime agenda for Alaska and the nation.
