Tax cuts — people keeping more of their money — are never the problem. The problem is spending. Dr. Paul’s stand for common-sense budgeting regarding the end-of-the-year CR is the latest in a series of efforts this year to stop Washington’s runaway spending, including working to offset emergency funds by reducing waste in existing programs and forcing the Senate to vote on a budget that would balance by 2024. In March, Dr. Paul, as chairman of the Federal Spending Oversight Subcommittee for the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee (HSGAC), held a hearing entitled, “The Effect of Borrowing on Federal Spending,” which included testimony from former Comptroller General of the United States David Walker.
