In order to protect our environment and ensure America remains economically competitive, our vehicles must continue to become more fuel-efficient while reducing harmful emissions. However, the pathway to achieving these shared goals must be based on science, hard data, and public input. We need to take the time to get this right, and this action rushes the agreed upon process for implementing new fuel economy standards. The Midterm Evaluation process is intended to be a public and collaborative effort between stakeholders and federal agencies, where all parties have the opportunity to fully examine proposed standards and provide input to set accurate goals. I will continue working with my colleagues in Michigan's Congressional delegation, the current Administration, the next Administration and stakeholders to ensure this process remains collaborative and results in a unified national program to guide strong fuel economy standards.
