Peters P000595 www.peters.senate.gov garypeters https://www.peters.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases scraper WASHINGTON, DC –U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) released the following statement on the one year anniversary of the day the CHIPS and Science Act was signed into law. “The CHIPS and Science Act is creating jobs, boosting our country’s economic competitiveness, bolstering our national security, and increasing our domestic semiconductor manufacturing. In the year since the CHIPS Act was signed into law, we’ve seen investments in Michigan that are helping to ensure our state remains at the forefront of manufacturing in the United States and across the world.” Peters helped author and enact the CHIPS and Science Act, which included a provision he secured with Senator Debbie Stabenow (MI) to support the domestic production of mature semiconductor technologies and ensure that projects supporting critical manufacturing industries, including the automotive sector, are given priority status. The CHIPS and Science Act also included Peters’ bipartisan Investing in Domestic Semiconductor Manufacturing Act, which is working to ensure federal incentives to boost domestic semiconductor manufacturing include U.S. suppliers that produce materials for semiconductor manufacturing – bolstering semiconductors supply chains and Michigan manufacturers. In the year since the CHIPS and Science Act was signed into law, Michigan has received more than $675 million in commitments from private companies to invest in semiconductors and electronics, according to the Biden Administration. Michigan has also received direct federal investments through the law, including the $400,000 grant that was announced earlier this year for the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center to help Michigan manufacturers strengthen their supply chains.
