Of the $90 million total, $50 million will be available for nonprofits located within high-risk urban areas, and the remaining $40 million will be available for organizations that fall outside of those areas. I am pleased that the final FY 2020 funding bill includes $90 million for nonprofit security grants so that synagogues, religious and cultural facilities, and other nonprofits across our country that are at a high risk of a terrorist attack have access to the resources they need to secure their facilities,said Portman.As we've seen recently, the threats to houses of worship and other religious community sites are increasing and we must do everything we can to protect them in Ohio and across our country. NOTE: NOTE: In December, Senator Portman joined bipartisan colleagues in a letter urging Senators Richard Shelby (R-AL), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), and Jon Tester (D-MT), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, to fund the NSGP at $90 million. Earlier this year Senator Portman and Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) introduced the Protecting Faith-Based and Nonprofit Organizations From Terrorism Act (S. 1539), legislation that would set a funding floor for these programs. This bill authorizes $75 million annually for FYs 2020-2024 for the NSGP. Last fall, Portman and Petersurged appropriatorsto approve $60 million in FY 2019 funding for this program, and that request was ultimately approved.
