As a conferee in the House-Senate tax reform conference committee, Senator Portman played an important role in the tax reform debate and the negotiations over the now-completed final tax bill between the House and the Senate. On Friday, the conferee committee released the conference report for the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, which will help middle-class families, create more jobs, and increase wages for American workers, with the goal of getting it to the presidents desk for his signature before Christmas. Recently, President Trump signed into law the FY 2018 National Defense Authorization Act conference report, which authorizes funding to upgrade Abrams tanks and Stryker vehicles. Critical work is done on both systems at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC) in Lima, where Portman recently hosted an employee town hall as part of his Ohio Defense Tour. The NDAA authorizes more than $1.6 billion for upgrading Abrams tanks to increase the rate of production of the newest upgraded Abrams tanks in Lima and ensure that our forward deployed tanks have the most cutting-edge survivability enhancements. The bill also authorizes $622 million in funding to complete the fourth Stryker brigade with upgraded survivability and mobility improvements as well as a second brigade of Stryker vehicles with an upgraded weapons system. These important resources were included by Senate Armed Services Chairman John McCain (R-AZ) and Ranking Member Jack Reed (D-RI) in the NDAA following a letter sent by Senators Portman and Gary Peters (D-MI), and builds on last years NDAA which included $652 million to support upgrades to the Abrams tank and $579 million for the Stryker vehicle. Fighting to Pass Critical Legislation for Lima Region By Rob Portman Lima News December 16, 2017 As a U.S. senator, I enjoy traveling around Ohio to meet with the people that make up our great state. In Lima, I have had the chance to meet with the doctors and nurses at St. Ritas Medical Center to see the compassionate love they give babies born to opioid-addicted mothers. Ive met with small business job creators at the Lima Area Chamber of Commerce, visited with the best tank builders in the world at the Lima Tank Plant, and talked with customers while enjoying a Kewpee burger and pie. The folks I meet in Lima are some of the best. My job in the Senate is to deliver results for themand the people of Lima will benefit from two critical pieces of legislation we are finalizing this year. President Trump recently signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law, and Congress is working to get a final tax reform bill passed and to the presidents desk before Christmas. The defense authorization bill is a big win for Limaand the hardworking, patriotic employees at the Lima Tank Plant, also known as the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC). I recently had the pleasure of touring JSMC again and meeting with the skilled employees who make the best armored vehicles in the world, and Im pleased that the additional resources I fought for were included in the final bill.
