The once-in-a-generation legislation will help middle-class families, create more jobs, and increase wages for American workers, and this week the House and Senate will send a final bill to the presidents desk before Christmas. As Portman says in the piece, Key among the tax incentives that have proven successful for Ohio have been the Historic Tax Credit, the New Markets Tax Credit, and Private Activity Bonds all of which have played a role in spurring development and revitalizing neighborhoods in Cincinnati. I fought hard to retain these important tax incentives for redevelopment and urban renewal, and Im proud to say the final tax agreement preserves them. Preserving Key Tax Incentives a Big Win for Cincinnati By Rob Portman Cincinnati Enquirer December 18, 2017 As a member of the tax-writing committee and the House-Senate tax conference that negotiated the final bill, I worked throughout the process to develop and improve the bill on behalf of Ohio. Key among the tax incentives that have proven successful for Ohio have been the Historic Tax Credit, the New Markets Tax Credit, and Private Activity Bonds all of which have played a role in spurring development and revitalizing neighborhoods in Cincinnati. I fought hard to retain these important tax incentives for redevelopment and urban renewal, and Im proud to say the final tax agreement preserves them. I have long been a strong supporter of the Historic Tax Credit and worked with my colleagues to restore the current-law 20 percent credit in both the Senate-passed bill and the final legislation Likewise, the city has been a major beneficiary of the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC), which helps economically distressed communities attract private capital for community redevelopment purposes. It has been instrumental in the transformation of much of Cincinnatis urban core I was also pleased to help preserve Private Activity Bonds, which are an essential source of funding for important infrastructure and community redevelopment projects across Ohio. Of note, these bonds have been critical in our efforts to provide more affordable housing in Cincinnati and around the state. Taken together, these tax incentives have leveraged more private sector investment for Cincinnati, spurred economic growth and job creation, and ultimately generated more tax revenue over time ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
