These threats and attacks we've seen across our country are attacks on our values. As I've said many times, there is no place for hatred, antisemitism, bigotry, threats, or attacks of any kind on our fellow citizens, and we must all work together to live up to our values of tolerance and respect for others. NOTE: Senator Portman has been working to ensure Jewish facilities across Ohio have access to federal security grants to help improve the safety at their facilities. On October 30, Portman sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) urging the Senate to pass the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Authorization Act and provide appropriate resources to help better protect synagogues and other nonprofit institutions around the country that are vulnerable to acts of terrorism. In March, the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee approved two amendments to the DHS Authorization Act authored by Senator Portman. The measure has stalled since then and Portman has called on the bipartisan Senate leadership to prioritize these efforts before the end of the year. Portman visited the Jewish Community Center in Youngstown on October 30 to stand in solidarity with the Jewish community following the horrific attack in Pittsburgh on Saturday, October 27. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
