As I have continued to urge my colleagues, the Lima plant plays a unique role in contributing to our national security as the only producer of the Abrams tank. Given that the Army has said it will continue to need this capability in the coming years, it is essential that we keep this critical defense capability in place.” Recently, Portman sent a letter to the Chairs and Ranking Members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations prior to the final consideration of the Fiscal Year 2015 appropriations bill urging them to ensure that the nation’s tank industrial base is not needlessly jeopardized.
