Extending the Health Coverage Tax Credit is of particular importance to retired United Steelworkers and Delphi salaried retirees struggling to maintain affordable healthcare. The bipartisan amendment was led by Portman and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio). “Thousands of Delphi Salaried Retirees and their families depend on the Health Coverage Tax Credit and we should be taking every step possible to help these hard-working families regain financial security,” Portman stated. “I urge my colleagues to support this commonsense amendment.” Earlier this year, the Senate Finance Committee passed an amendment sponsored by Portman and Brown that would extend the HCTC for retirees who lost their health care coverage—in addition to their pensions and other benefits—when the companies for which they worked either entered into bankruptcy or moved operations overseas. The amendment was passed during the Senate Finance Committee’s consideration of a tax extenders passage. The senators recently urged their colleagues to support the extension of HCTC in a letter which can be found here. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
