It is an honor and a privilege to be here this morning to introduce Mr. John Broomes, the Nominee for the United States Federal District Judge for Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Chairman, I cannot think of a more qualified individual for this position. A native of Wichita, Mr. Broomes graduated with top honors from both the University of Texas at Austin, as well as the Washburn University School of Law. Mr. Broomes has not only served the Kansas judicial system well, as both a clerk for a U.S. District Judge and a U.S. Magistrate Judge, but he has also served our great country, rising to the rank of Second Lieutenant in the United States Navy’s “Silent Service,” better known as the Naval Submarine Force. Most recently, he has been a member at the Hinkle Law Firm in Wichita, where he practices in their resource law division, and has acquired vast trial experience, which will be sure to suit him well during his judgeship. Mr. Chairman, Mr. Broomes has my strongest possible support. He has already pledged an oath to protect the Constitution as an officer in the U.S. Navy. I have no reservation that he will uphold our Constitution as the Founding Fathers envisioned it. The nominee will be voted on by the full Judiciary Committee at a later date and then approved by the full Senate.
