Joining Scott and Booker, the resolution was cosponsored by Senators James Lankford (R-Okla.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Tom Carper (D-Del.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), and Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.). “Sickle cell disease continues to be a prevalent blood disorder affecting many in the Black community today,” said Senator Scott. “This resolution exhibits a commitment to raising awareness and supporting the eradication of this terrible disease.” “We must continue to raise awareness of sickle cell disease and ensure that communities that are disproportionally affected by this condition have equitable access to care and treatments that help improve their health,” said Senator Booker. “The passage of this resolution reaffirms our commitment to raise awareness, improve access to care, and help find a cure for this disease.” Senator Scott’s signature sickle cell legislation, the Sickle Cell and Other Heritable Blood Disorders Research Surveillance, Prevention and Treatment Act, was signed into law in 2018. The Senator continues the work of raising awareness and advocating for the sickle cell community today.
