This afternoon, in remarks at the White House, the president announced that people will start seeing more money in their paychecks beginning this February if Congress is able to pass the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act by the end of the year. This news, by way of the IRS, means that less money be will withheld for taxes resulting in bigger paychecks. And bigger paychecks is what the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is all about. Here’s how it works: Each year, the IRS produces what it calls "withholding tables" that inform employers how much tax to take out of people’s paychecks. And the IRS has confirmed to the president that it will be ready to adjust those tables by February. Because the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is a big tax cut for working people, this change will mean less of a paycheck will go to Washington and more will go to the hardworking person who earned it. This is real tax relief for real people—and it’s coming very soon.
