https://www.speaker.gov/general/walk-down-memory-lane A Walk Down Memory Lane 2017-12-13 2017 2017-12 Republican House WI Paul Ryan R000570 www.speaker.gov     legacy In the words of Speaker Ryan: “It’s high time the hardworking people of this country get a break.” Yes, tax reform is about creating jobs and spurring economic growth—making American companies competitive on the global stage. But, more importantly, tax reform is also about fairer taxes and bigger paychecks. Putting the American people above Washington special interests. While the amounts may vary, under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the average American at every income level will get a tax cut. We met Cindy, a single mom making $30,000 per year as an assistant manager at a restaurant who hopes to get beyond living paycheck-to-paycheck and start saving for the future. Then there were Ted and Casey, newlyweds and first-time homeowners, making a combined $115,000 per year in a high-tax state. They hope to achieve financial security before starting a family. We also met George, a firefighter in his mid-twenties, who is living comfortably in his small town with a salary of $48,000 per year. He’s thinking ahead, wanting to start putting money away for his future family. And finally, there was the Smith family—Steve, Melinda, and their two kids—living on a tight budget with a combined yearly income of $59,000. Steve and Melinda want to get to a place where they do not have to struggle with everyday expenses. With the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, all of these hardworking Americans will get relief from our outdated and overcomplicated tax code. Whether it’s the result of a nearly doubled standard deduction, an increased Child Tax Credit, the Family Flexibility Credit, simply lower tax rates, or a combination of any of these factors, one thing is clear: Average Americans at every income level will see a tax cut come next year. Why? Because individuals deserve to decide what to do with their hard-earned paychecks. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
