While the halls of the Hill were often abuzz with tax reform-related activities, Members of Congress and staff also took the time to celebrate all that comes with the holiday season. We saw the Capitol Christmas Tree take its rightful place on the West Front, the Speaker lit the office Menorah, and more. Here are eight photos that show our favorite moments from the month of December: 1.They said it couldnt be done. Speaker Ryan and fellow House leaders speak to members of the press following the Houses passage of historic, pro-growth tax reform legislation. 2.Signed. Sealed. (Almost) Delivered. Accompanied by Sen. Orrin Hatch, Senate president pro tempore, Speaker Ryan signs theTax Cuts and Jobs Act, sending the legislation to the presidents desk. 3.Good job, bud. Congress passed the largest reform of our countrys tax code in 31 years. During a White House ceremony celebrating Congresss passage of theTax Cuts and Jobs Act, Speaker Ryan and Vice President Pence take a moment to soak it all in. 4.Its lit. Speaker Ryan and 11-year-old Montanan Ridley Brandmayr light the Capitol Christmas Tree. This years tree comes from the Kootenai National Forest in Montana. 5.Its lit, too. Surrounded by servicemembers of the Jewish faith, Speaker Ryan lights the office Menorah on the first night of Hanukkah. 6.We did it! President Trump congratulates Speaker Ryan on a job well done at a White House ceremony celebrating the passage of the largest reform of our countrys tax code in a generation. 7.Merry Christmas, and thank you for your service. Speaker Ryan writes Christmas cards to some of our nations active duty servicemembers at an event hosted by the American Red Cross. 8.And you get a kringle! Speaker Ryan gifts Vice President Pence with a Racine, Wisconsin-made kringle, a Danish pastry, for Christmas.
