In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Senator Sullivan spoke in favor of the comprehensive, pro-growth tax package, particularly his interest in stimulating new economic growth and empowering American families with more money in their pockets. The measure, which passed the Senate Budget Committee today and is expected to be considered on the Senate floor later this week, is designed to address years of anemic economic growth, encourage new investments across the country, lower taxes on American taxpayers, and increase wages for American workers. Watch Senator Sullivan's interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer (click here to watch). BLITZER: We're following multiplebreaking stories this hour, including passage of theSenate Republican tax overhaulbill by the Budget Committee. Setting the stage for a vote by the full Senate. President Trump went to Capitol Hill today to personally pressure Republican holdouts. We're back with RepublicanSenator Dan Sullivan of Alaska. He's a key member of the ArmedServices Committee. He supports the tax overhaulbill. Are you comfortable, though,Senator, with a bill that wouldadd, according to theCongressional Budget Office,$1.4 Trillion to the nationaldebt over the next ten years? SULLIVAN: Well, look, that score by theCBO, Wolf, takes into account they estimate that our economicgrowth with that score would be1.9% over the next ten years.I think that vastlyunderestimates what we can do inthis economy. You know, one of the things thatis so important about this taxbill is we've got to get thiseconomy growing again. We've had a lost decade ofeconomic growth.About less than 2% GDP growth. We can get to 3%, 3.5% economic growth. We're going to do that and thosedeficits won't be such achallenge. We'll have much more of anopportunity for bringing in morerevenue. And, look, that brings anotherpoint.Everybody is saying who is goingto benefit?I think the person who is goingto benefit the most is theperson who doesn't have a jobnow, who is going to get onebecause of the strong growthwe're going to see out of thiseconomy. BLITZER: What happens if your upbeatassessment turns out to beincorrect and there isn't thekind of 3%, 4% growth that youanticipate, but it gets backunder 2%.Would you support a snapbackprovision to snap back some ofthe tax cuts in order to dealwith a huge budget deficit? SULLIVAN: Well, look, that wasdiscussed at the lunch todayand, you know, the Presidentcame to Capitol Hill and it wasa very good lunch. It was a good discussion.A lot of back and forth. That topic itself was raised bySenator Corker, SenatorLankford, and it's somethingthat I'm certainly looking atbecause it raises an importantpoint.I think we're going to get backto levels, we're alreadystarting to see it, traditionallevels of growth 3%, 3.5% that we need particularly interms of the middle class. They haven't seen strong growthin over a decade. The tax bill is going to be akey part of that. That's why a lot of people areexcited about it. BLITZER: You're potentially open tothat snapback provision? SULLIVAN: I am. BLITZER: Did the decision for ChuckSchumer and Nancy Pelosi to backout of their scheduled WhiteHouse meeting with the Presidenttoday help unite Republicans toget this bill through the BudgetCommittee? SULLIVAN: Look, I was not aware of thatdecision during the discussionat lunch.I think what's unitingRepublicans is the desire to letmiddle class families bring homemore pay.Put more money in the pockets ofAmericans. To me that's what this tax billis all about and growing theeconomy.I think that's what's unitingRepublicans across the board.I think you saw good momentum atthe lunch today, good discussionyou saw coming out of that luncha lot of member who's haddiffering views. They're starting to cometogether. We still have more work to do,but the Budget Committee's votetoday was an important step. ### Press Contact Print Email Tweet Next Article Previous Article | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
