I'm pleased to see that President-elect Trump chose someone for Interior Secretary from a Western state who has been a strong advocate for energy independence. I also commend Rep. Zinke's impressive career as a U.S. Navy Seal. I look forward to speaking with Rep. Zinke about Alaska's unique land issues including ANILCA and how federal government overreach in Alaska has stymied much needed economic and resource development. Additionally, I look forward to discussing the Interior Department's trust responsibility to Alaska Natives. Finally, I need to have a better understanding of why and to what degree he is against the transfer of certain federal lands to state and private hands.
