The resolution will officially recognize November 2018 as "National Native American Heritage Month," and the Friday after Thanksgiving as "Native American Heritage Day," highlighting the powerful contributions of Native Americans to the fabric of the United States. "By recognizing November as Native American Heritage Month we are recognizing all the ways in which tribal nations have made and continue to make this country stronger," Tester said. "This is a time to recommit ourselves to fighting for tribal sovereignty and upholding our trust responsibilities to our Native American brothers and sisters." The resolution specifically recognizes: The commitment of the United States to fostering tribal self-governance and self-determination; The commitment of the United States to improving health care, law enforcement, housing, and the socioeconomic status of tribal communities; The historical and current contributions of Native Americans to our Armed Forces; The United States' commitment to strengthening its government-to-government relationship with Indian tribes.
