https://www.tester.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=7151 Tester Secures More Than $2.1 Million for Blackfeet and Fort Belknap Housing Authorities [press_release] 2019-12-16 2019 2019-12 Democrat House MT Jon Tester T000464 www.tester.senate.gov     legacy U.S. Senator Jon Tester announced today that the Blackfeet Housing Authority and the Fort Belknap Housing Authority will receive a combined $2,120,751 to further expand and maintain affordable housing in their communities. Every family in Montana deserves affordable and safe housing, regardless of where they are from, Tester said. These grants will allow the Fort Belknap and Blackfeet communities to continue their efforts to ensure that every family's needs are met, no matter their income. This interim funding was awarded under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act of 1996 with the expressed goal of helping Tribal communities construct and maintain affordable housing units in Indian Country. The Blackfeet Housing Authority will receive $1,633,261 and the Fort Belknap Housing Authority will receive $487,490. Tester has long supported the development of affordable housing in Indian Country. Earlier this month, he announced more than $13.5 million in grants through another U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development competitive grant program for the Fort Peck, Rocky Boy's and Flathead Reservations. Earlier this year, he secured more than $26 million to bolster affordable housing on Montana's seven reservations. He also introduced and helped pass the Tribal HUD-VASH Act earlier this Congress to formally codify the Tribal HUD-VASH program, which provides rental and housing assistance to homeless and at-risk homeless veterans in Indian Country. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
