All funding comes directly from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), which Senator Tillis helped negotiate, write, and pass into law. In total, the Wilmington region (Brunswick, New Hanover, Columbus, Bladen, Pender Counties) has already been awarded more than $190 million total from the bipartisan legislation. The project will construct 4,000 feet of elevated roadway access to the general cargo terminal, relocate the North Gate security checkpoint, improve existing at-grade railroad crossings, construct a truck queuing area, and a new badging office to include EV charging infrastructure. The project also includes the development of a Terminal Resiliency Plan and a Terminal Emissions Reduction Plan. “The Port of Wilmington plays an important role in transporting goods throughout North Carolina and is an economic hub in the Wilmington area,” said Senator Tillis. “I have visited the Port of Wilmington multiple times, and understand how crucial it is to continue investing in the port and improving it with updated technology.
