He released the following statement: "Last year, nearly 10,000 people were killed in crashes involving drunk drivers. Thousands more were injured - one person every two minutes. New Mexicans are all too familiar with these tragedies, including a horrific crash that cost the lives of three young people this past holiday weekend. All of these deaths are one hundred percent preventable. "Today we join together to honor the victims of drunk and drugged driving. They aren't just numbers - they are our friends, brothers, sisters, parents and children. Their families are coping with unimaginable loss. To them, I say this: We have not forgotten. We remember your loved ones. And we will do all we can to prevent these tragedies. "Ending drunk driving starts with each of us taking responsibility for ourselves and one another. Designate a driver. Take a cab. Step in when it isn't safe for a friend or family member to get behind the wheel. We must continue investing in efforts to raise awareness and stop people from driving when they're impaired. Together, we can hit the brakes on drunk driving and stop these deadly crimes."
