The resolution also reaffirms support for existing laws that work to ensure equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities, including the Americans with Disabilities Act that former President George Herbert Walker Bush signed into law. The resolution was sponsored by U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Chris Coons (D-DE), Jack Reed (D-RI), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Patty Murray (D-WA), Bob Casey (D-PA), Marie Cantwell (D-WA), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Sheldon Brown (D-OH), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Mazie Hirono (D-HI).
