Senators Warren and Crapo previously introduced an amendment calling for the DOE to conduct this study during the Senate’s consideration of S. 1392, the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act. “Growing numbers of manufacturers and building owners realize that when they invest in operational energy efficiency tools, they can do something good not only for the environment but also for the bottom line,” the senators wrote in the letter. “Operational energy efficiency tools help protect the environment, save companies’ and taxpayer money and create new jobs.” The senators urged the DOE to begin this study while S. 1392 awaits further action in the Senate.
