Today, U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D Ore., issued the following statement on the latest version of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act, which has been included in the omnibus appropriations bill. This cybersecurity bill was a bad bill when it passed the Senate and it is an even worse bill today. Americans deserve policies that protect both their security and their liberty. This bill fails on both counts. Cybersecurity experts say CISA will do little to prevent major hacks and privacy advocates know that this bill lacks real, meaningful privacy protections, said Wyden. Wyden has been a leading opponent of this flawed bill. Wyden was the only senator to vote against the Senate version of CISA when it passed out of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. On the Senate floor, he offered an amendment to secure better protections for individuals personal information, which garnered 41 votes. These meaningful privacy protections were not included in the final version.
