The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will be awarded two $20 million grants for the South Central and North Central I-65 expansion projects. Senator Young urged DOT Secretary Elaine L. Chao to support funding for these projects, which are a top priority for INDOT. As the Crossroads of America, it is critical that Indiana's roads can accommodate the safe transportation of people and goods,said Senator Young. Investments in infrastructure promote both safety and economic opportunity for Hoosiers and those who want to do business in our state. South Central Indiana Expansion Project (I-65) The purpose of this project is to increase the capacity of I-65 between SR 58 (Exit 64) and SR 46 (Exit 68). This means reconstructing existing two lanes and adding an additional travel lane and appropriate shoulders to both the north and south bound lanes, and replacing the superstructure of Carr Hill Rd bridge over I-65, and replacing the superstructure of CR 200 S bridge over I-65. More informationhere. North Central Indiana Expansion Project (I-65) The purpose of this project is to increase the capacity of I-65 between SR 32 (Exit 140) and SR 47 (Exit 146). This means reconstructing existing two lanes and adding an additional travel lane and appropriate shoulders to both the north and south bound lanes. Bridges and ramps to be enhanced include: 1) I-65 Overhead SB Ramp to Lafayette Av. 2) I-65 over Prairie Creek. 3) I-65 Overhead NB Ramp to US 52. 4) I-65 over Prairie Creek. 5) I-65 over Spring Creek. 6) CR 300N/206th ST Overhead Structure. 7) Pavement work is to be included on ramps at the SR 47 interchange.
