Trinity High School senior Ben Kline has won the National Competition and Louisville Male High School senior Hannah Seaver has won of the online Community Choice Competition. Yarmuth made the announcement during an assembly at the schools on Monday. Kline's photograph, entitled Kentucky Pride, was chosen by a panel of judges from the local arts community. It will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol's Artistic Discovery corridor for one year, and Kline has been invited to Washington for an awards ceremony later this year. Seaver's photograph, entitled In the Shadows, was the top choice among online voters on Yarmuth's congressional website. It will be displayed in Yarmuth's Louisville office for one year. Our city has such a wonderful appreciation of the arts, and this is clearly evident in the fantastic work submitted by local students, said Yarmuth. Teaching our young people to not only express themselves through art, but also learn more about others and our community, is a gift they can take with them through life, and I'm looking forward to displaying Ben and Hannah's artwork for all to see. It will be wonderful to have another piece of Louisville in our nation's capital. Since 1982, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives have hosted the annual Congressional Art Competition, a contest that enables high-school students from across the nation to demonstrate their artistic talents before a global audience. Yarmuth's ninth annual competition drew more than 100 entries from high-school students representing 10 local schools.
