Louisville Male High School senior Yasmine Goodner has won the National Competition and Central High School senior Nhan Phan has won of the online Community Choice Competition. Yarmuth made the announcement during surprise visits to both schools on Monday morning. Goodners artwork, entitled Voiceless, was chosen by a panel of judges from the local arts community. It will be displayed in the U.S. Capitols Artistic Discovery corridor for one year, and Goodner will also receive two round-trip tickets to Washington to attend the unveiling and an awards ceremony later this year. Phans artwork, entitled Window to the Soul, was the top choice among online voters on Yarmuths congressional website. It will be displayed in Yarmuths Louisville office for one year. Were lucky to live in a city that has such a fine appreciation of the arts, and the wonderful work submitted this year certainly proves that, said Yarmuth. Year after year, the level of talent and skill that is displayed makes me so proud to represent our young local artists. I look forward to displaying Yasmine and Nhans artwork for all to see. Since 1982, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives have hosted the annual Congressional Art Competition, a contest that enables high-school students from across the nation to demonstrate their artistic talents before a global audience. Yarmuths 11th annual competition drew more than 60 entries from high-school students representing more than a dozen local schools.
