The Zeldin Amendment would allow states to opt out of Common Core without fear that there will be any loss of federal funding as a result. Congressman Zeldin said, The Zeldin Amendment, which has been identified as the single most effective way for the federal government to permit New York and other states to withdraw from Common Core without fear that there will be any loss of federal funding as a result, is a huge legislative victory for states seeking to withdraw from Common Core. One of the biggest arguments against the repeal of Common Core in New York State has been that New York would lose out on several hundred million, if not billions, of federal dollars. Under this new law, my amendment clarifies that any state, including New York State, would now be able to withdraw from Common Core without losing any federal funding. Congressman Zeldins amendment was included in the final conference report of the Every Student Succeeds Act, which passed both the U.S. House and Senate, and was signed into law by the President on December 10, 2015.
