The St. Ignatius High Schooler’s art will be displayed in the halls of the United States Congress for the next year along with the top entries in each district around the country. The Congressional Art Competition is a tradition that has been reoccurring since 1982, however Hunt’s submission is the first winner unique to Montana’s newly drawn western district. In her submission, Hunt noted that Girl on Horse is a 3D plume feather woman riding her appaloosa in a field of lavender with a background of mission old ledger papers. Ledger paper is an art form that traces back to the late 1800’s and is used in art displaying the early lives of Native Americans. “Montana is home to a robust art community and cultivating that talent begins with recognizing it early on,” Zinke said. “I was incredibly impressed with the work our students brought to the table - it made choosing a winner a difficult task. Cedar’s piece on ledger paper was a great ode to the roots of Montana and our state should be proud of the talent working its way up through our youth.
