Adams (NC-12) today announced $25 million in federal funding for the City of Charlotte and the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The federal grant was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant program and will be used to fund the Charlotte Gateway Station Track and Safety Improvements project. Under the project, existing track infrastructure will be removed, a bridge will be constructed, new station tracks will be installed, and signals to facilitate the Charlotte Gateway Station will be installed. Transportation funding is huge for Charlotte, which is why one of my first acts in Congress was to sit down with Charlotte City Council members, Transportation Secretary Foxx and Members of the House Appropriations Committee, said Congresswoman Adams. $25 million for the Charlotte Gateway Station is a major win. Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation and its imperative that we continue to improve and expand city transit to accommodate growth. I remain committed to working with federal and local leaders to secure additional federal investments like this one. In November 2014, Congresswoman Adams met with the Charlotte City Council to discuss transportation projects in the area and TIGER grants. In January, Congresswoman Adams met with DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx to advocate for various transportation projects in Charlotte.
