Adams (NC-12) today announced a $11,470,826 federal grant for the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The federal funding was allocated through the Department of Transportations (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and will be used to replace and rehabilitate the airports taxiways and runways. The funding will also be used to purchase new aircraft fire and rescue vehicles; to update the airport master plan; and to reimburse the airport for additional land purchased for airport development. This FAA funding is a critical investment that will help ensure airport safety for the thousands of North Carolinians who travel through the Charlotte Douglas Airport each day, said Congresswoman Adams. Vital transportation infrastructure improvements such as this one help keep travelers safe and strengthen our economy, creating lasting sustainability in our communities. Specifically, the federal grant will fund the mill and overlay of 7,728 feet of existing taxiways as well as 1,650 feet of existing runway pavement in need of repair. The funding will also be used to replace two aircraft rescue and fire fighting vehicles in order to meet safety requirements. Additionally, the grant will be used as a reimbursement for 28.49 acres of land needed for airport development and to update the existing airport master plan, which hasnt been updated since 1997, in order to determine current and future airport needs.
